The Teddy Kradzinski Foundation’s Vision

The Foundation aims to provide access to long- and short-term recovery resources for individuals at different stages of their recovery journeys. We endow scholarships for individuals transitioning to sober living homes on their paths to recovery. We also enable those in recovery to achieve long-term personal and spiritual growth through practices in yoga, mindfulness and meditation, as well as music.

“Spirituality is an aspect of recovery I’ve found essential to my well-being. It is the essence of the psychic change I need to remain in recovery.” -Teddy Kradzinski

Teddy Kradzinski, 5 S’S OF ADDICTION RECOVERY PART 3: SPIRITUALITY

Spirituality is an aspect of recovery I’ve found essential to my well-being. It is the essence of the psychic change I need to remain in recovery. If “spirituality” seems like a vague and abstract concept, that’s probably because it is. I cannot give you a definitive definition of spirituality or tell you how to have a spiritual experience. Perhaps this is for the best—presenting set directions might prevent you from making your own way, naturally and organically, toward finding a power greater than yourself—what AA calls “Higher Power.” “A power greater than yourself”—what is “yourself” in this context? I interpret it as one’s ego. The twelve steps have been called “an ego deflator.” When our ego melts away, what is left? That is something for each of us to discover individually.

One cannot mimic soul. The presence of soul in music is less about the content and more about the delivery of what is being expressed. It begins in the musician’s imagination and ends in the listener’s imagination. Ultimately, the inspiration is something that must be tapped into, it’s always hiding in plain sight. It will come through us if we get out of its way.

Recovery

Teddy Kradzinski, 5 S’S OF ADDICTION RECOVERY PART 4: SOCIAL SUPPORT

There is a certain awakening that begins when one starts gain freedom from addiction and starts to feel hope. I remember how lost and alone I felt. I begin to have compassion for others. I start to think less about what I can take from a meeting and more about what I can give. I begin to focus on how I can help someone else find peace and freedom. Sometimes I need help and support from another, and sometimes someone needs my help. Sometimes we give and accept help simultaneously. Rain, soil, and sunshine are all necessary to growing a garden. In the garden of humanity, I found that social support—supporting others just as I have accepted support—has given me purpose, has made me feel like a part of a whole.
